The out of hours vet themselves were amazing and I was very grateful that they saw our dog so quickly and saved her from a potential life-threatening situation, but the information given by the receptionist around payment and insurance claims was incorrect which is now the second time this has happened to us with VetsNow. The first time I was threatened with debt recovery as I’d been given incorrect information about them claiming directly from my insurer, and this time I had a follow up call from VetsNow asking me about my payment and why I hadn’t paid the correct amount. She then told me what the correct procedure was and confirmed she would send a follow-up email, but that email then contradicted what she’d told me on the phone so I am still confused as to whether I have done the right thing or not. Great vets, admins require clearer instructions.

I visited Vets Now Guildford on Saturday with my darling cat Chunky as I woke up to him unable to walk and paralysed from the hips down. As I walked in, the receptionist whisked him away saying they would triage him and a vet would bring me in soon. Twenty minutes later we were brought into the room, where Chunky had soiled himself and were told “he’s had a blood clot travel through his body, paralysing him and he will need to be put down.” We were NOT told the official diagnosis, we were not told any alternative courses of treatment or why it had happened, and we did not see any testing nor treatments administered to him. We were simply told he had to be put down. They expected us to put him down then and there, in a soiled cat carrier (which only happened after to him being handed over) where he was petrified. I refused to have him put down there opting to take him home instead, which the vet stated they were uncomfortable with. I then had to pay £415 for said visit, and spend the afternoon on the phone with mobile euthanasia clinics. It wasn’t until I phoned alternative clinics I was told the official diagnosis or had what happened actually explained to me. I will not name the vet we directly dealt with at Vets Now Guildford as I find that cruel, however the extreme lack of empathy and compassion in this establishment is shocking. For the price an out of hours vet I expect basic human decency and care for both pets and their owners, especially when you’re being told you have to say goodbye. It is truly unfathomable that any vet would expect an owner to put their cat down while he’s sat in his own excrement, with practically zero information as to why the situation has happened. I felt like more of an inconvenience and my boy deserved far better than that. Luckily, he passed away at home under the loving care of an alternative vet who actually showed empathy towards the situation as well as explained everything from top to bottom instead of looking at me with a blank expression as the vet at Vets Now did. I am now £415 down and without my best friend. I am shocked and appalled by the service at Vets Now and I will never be returning.

Definitely saved our greyhounds life. She was losing 150ml of blood every hour through her intestines. The on call emergency vet and nurse were extremely attentive and regularly gave me updates. They kept her for 3 nights, keeping me up to date with all treatments and plans. Allowing me to visit and just generally taking good care of her. They then sent her home with clear instructions as they felt the comfort of home was best to aid recovery. They genuinely care and the nurse on duty even called a few days later to check in with us and we were pleased to say Olive was improving every day! She is now completely back to normal, putting back on all the weight she lost!

This was the 1st time we used this vet in an emergency visit on Sunday. We were extremely impressed with the layout, so well set out with separate 'pods' to sit in and wait. Waiting time was short and staff were incredibly friendly and calm. The vet - so sorry, I can't recall his name! - was lovely and seemed to 'win over' our dog who is terrified of vets! Overall a calming experience when we were quite anxious. Thank you.
