I can’t thank the veterinary team in Hoddesdon enough for the incredible care they gave my dog. She was spayed and also had two lumps removed, and throughout the whole process they were unbelievably kind, gentle, and reassuring — to both of us.The surgery went beautifully, her recovery has been smooth, and the compassion they showed made such a difference. My dog still absolutely adores everyone there and gets excited every time we visit, which says everything about how well she was treated. Truly outstanding care from a team I trust completely.— No longer an anxious dog mummy

Sorry, this is going to be a long one and I hope The Walton Lodge Veterenay Group will see this. I have been using Walton Lodge in Bishop’s Stortford for around 20 years. To be honest, if it weren’t for Zoe and Brooke, I would have moved to another practice a long time ago. The care and compassion Zoe provides are first class. Brooke is always kind, and if she says she will sort something, she does, no chasing required. For their dedication alone, I would happily give Walton Lodge 5 stars. However, over the past few years, since the surgery became part of a larger group, prices have risen dramatically, so much so that it is becoming increasingly difficult to afford veterinary care when my dogs need to be seen. My Staffordshire Bull Terrier suffers from multiple allergies and requires ongoing medication, including tablets and monthly injections. To manage costs, I purchase the medication online with a prescription, and I administer the injections myself. While I fully understand the need for monitoring animals on prescribed medication, the charges are, in my opinion, excessive. A six-month medication review, which involves a brief check of heart, lungs, and a general examination lasting no more than five minutes, costs £78. On top of that, prescriptions are charged at £38 each. This means that every six months I pay £154 for a check-up and two prescriptions, and £76 per month in between, before even paying for the medication itself. Of course, we love our dog and would never let him suffer, so we feel we have no choice but to pay these fees. However, it does place a significant financial strain on us. I do welcome the new legislation expected later this year to cap prescription charges and require greater transparency in pricing. That said, I can’t help but feel that larger veterinary groups may find other ways to offset any loss in revenue. In the current economic climate, many people are struggling financially. I worry that some pets may not receive the care they need simply because their owners cannot afford these rising costs. In my view, veterinary practices have a moral responsibility to ensure that animals receive the care they need, but this must be balanced with fair and reasonable pricing for pet owners.

If it wasn’t for Brooke and Zoe and your bishops Stortford branch I would have moved vets long ago. The quality of care my pets receive and the time they take to reassure you and the welcome you get there is amazing. I have attended, Harlow, Hoddeston and ware branches and was disappointed with the care and attitude of the staff at these branches. I don’t think this branch gets the recognition it deserves as they go above and beyond in making me feel comfortable. Thank you Zoe and Brooke you are amazing.
