  On 4 January, we visited the emergency veterinary centre at 7:45 am following an epileptic seizure our dog experienced earlier that morning. Although the centre is advertised as a 24/7 emergency facility, we were left waiting for approximately 50 minutes before a vet was available to examine our dog. We were the only clients in the waiting area at the time, which gave the impression that no veterinary staff were immediately on-site despite the 24/7 claim. Once we were seen, the vet who examined our dog was excellent. They were thorough, reassuring, and answered all of our questions clearly. The total time spent at the clinic was around 30 minutes, including a 10‑minute wait for blood test results. However, we were extremely surprised by the cost of the visit. We were charged £578 for what amounted to a half‑hour appointment. Our dog has been insured since the day we brought her home, and this is the first time we have ever made a claim. Unfortunately, our insurance provider contributed only £244.36; a figure that didn’t even cover half of the total bill. This was very disappointing, especially given that this was the first and only time we have needed their support. Communication with both the insurance company and the veterinary practice fell below professional standards. I had to reach out multiple times for updates, and the veterinary centre in particular was difficult to contact. It took four emails spread over 12 days before I finally received a reply. This added unnecessary stress to an already upsetting situation. Based on the overall experience—particularly the long wait at a supposed 24/7 emergency service, the extremely high cost, and the poor communication; I would not feel comfortable recommending either the veterinary practice or the insurance provider.

  Absolutely unacceptable and deeply unprofessional. From start to finish, the primary concern appeared to be money rather than the welfare of my critically unwell puppy. Before 5pm, prior to the practice transferring over to Vets Now, we were seen by a male vet who was genuine, compassionate, and honest. He clearly explained that he was extremely worried about our puppy. While this was devastating to hear, it prepared us for the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of the worst. However, once care was taken over by Vets Now, the information and approach changed completely. I received a phone call during the night in which the caller failed to identify themselves. The very first thing said was, “Have you got the money sorted?” There was no update on my puppy’s condition, no reassurance, and no indication that his wellbeing was the priority. Later, we were contacted again and told that the puppy had “perked up” and that we could take him home, despite him being blue and clearly struggling to breathe. This gave us false hope at an already devastating time, only to leave us even more heartbroken. It was deeply concerning and appeared to be driven solely by the fact that we did not have the £500 deposit immediately available. The lack of professionalism, empathy, consistency, and duty of care shown was shocking and unacceptable. This practice failed to meet the basic standards expected of a veterinary service. I would strongly advise others to avoid this practice.

  Disgusting policy and attitude from the vet we dealt with. Our pet was most likely hit by a car. After calling for a late night, emergency appointment, we were told to bring ID, proof of address and our insurance policy. We waited 3 hours while other pets were prioritised (one with a sore leg…). When we were finally seen the vet informed me that my cat should stay the night to receive treatment in the morning and had received a pain killer for it fractured pelvis. It was at this point the vet decided to inform that there was an up front cost of £250 for this. 2 days before pay day. Pay it or take your pet home, this is the policy. Even though we’re insured. The kicker was, because I didn’t have £250 to hand, I was forced to sign an agreement stating I would pay £395 within 30 days. £395 for a 3 hour wait and some pain killers. These ‘people’ do not care about animals. They care about money. They know you have little option during these difficult situations and are willing to exploit your feelings and your pet’s wellbeing for money. Disgusting.

  Excellent service from lovely vet called Helen. She was able to update herself briefly with my dogs history prior to visit as luckily it’s my own vet practice Vets now use . She gave a very informative diagnosis and treatment recommendation. Admin staff was also very understanding. Whilst it is costly an out of hours service for pets is invaluable.
