I'd been using the vets for my Labrador for years. He went through elbow surgery nearly 5 years ago and I couldn't fault them. However in more recent times he'd gone to get some lab lumps checked and I felt I was misinformed and this led to a number of trips back and forth after some failed sedation. I had a reasoned discussion with the vet, however the bill never reflected our conversation about some costs that were additionally applied when it came to settling up. At the time I had a card machine waved in my face, was told it would be £575 and offered no bill. I also had a queue of people behind me and an anxious, half drunk lab in the car. I queried this and the poor receptionist was then playing the messenger which wasn't fair on me or her. Anyway I settled up and followed this up with a complaint after I consulted my previous bill. Fast forward to some contact from the Clinical Director Mark. He called me to appease me, no more and nothing less. He was never going to offer me the reasoned amount I was after but wasted some 45 mins of my day. Absolutely no reasoning, negotiation and never an ounce of the customer being right. His follow up emails were even more of a joke, defensive and spoke about the customer 'journey' and 'experience'. My time using Shortheath vets has now ceased. Nothing but money grabbing so and so's with zero compassion. Never mind my journey, my lab is now terrified of the car and the vets as a result. I'd try another vet if you're considering paying them a visit.
Read on Google →Awful first time experience for our young daughter who took our new puppy in on her own. She was spoken to in a very belittling & humiliating manner by the vet who saw her. TOTALLY unnecessary & it left her very upset. Will never go there again.
Read on Google →I have been with Shortheath for the past 4 years and of late have been more than I would like. However I cannot fault the surgery, Rachel, one of the vets is compassionate, professional and very empathetic. Extremely knowledgeable with our dog’s aging limbs! Milo has a particular soft spot for Lauren who works on the front desk, she is brilliant with him and always makes both Milo and I feel at complete ease. Both Rachel and Lauren are an asset to the surgery - thank you ladies.
Read on Google →Thank you to all of the team who took such good care of Hugo. Sadly we had to put him to sleep. The staff were all so supportive, kind, compassionate and did not rush us with the process. I could not recommend them enough to take care of your pets with any medical needs and or end of life. Thank you!
Read on Google →I visited Shortheath Vets today expecting to have my cat spayed, but left without the procedure being done after being quoted £230 on the day. This is far above the going rate — most places charge no more than £140 — and yet I received no advance pricing, no email confirmation, and no pre-op care instructions whatsoever. Luckily, I knew not to feed my cat after midnight, but if I hadn’t looked that up myself, it could have put her at risk — a worrying lack of basic communication. This isn’t the first time we’ve had issues. On a previous visit, my partner and I were randomly and unexpectedly charged £100, and even the staff couldn’t clearly explain what the charge was for. We were put on the spot and made to pay, despite no one being sure what the cost covered. It felt incredibly unprofessional. To top it off, the receptionists are consistently rude and dismissive, speaking down to you as if you’re an inconvenience. There’s no warmth, no reassurance — just attitude. Thankfully, I’ve now found another vet who was kind, clear, and charges HALF the price. If you want better care, fairer pricing, and respectful service, I strongly recommend Vets4Pets at Pets at Home or Castle Vets in Farnham instead. Shortheath Vets is not somewhere I’d trust again.
