I cannot recommend Brook Street Vets in Steventon highly enough. About 18 months ago, Mel was absolutely fantastic in explaining everything about my dog Cassie’s spay, what the procedure would involve, the treatment she would receive, and the recovery process. Her clear, patient explanations immediately put me at ease. A very neat job with no infection or problems, all went smoothly. The care we’ve received at the practice has always been exceptional. From the reception staff to the nurses and vets, everyone genuinely cares about the animals they treat and their wellbeing. More recently, when Cassie had a worrying pancreatitis problem, Mel explored every possibility, explained everything thoroughly, and guided us through the treatment. I’m so relieved to say she is now fully recovered. Every visit reinforces that the team at Brook Street Vets are not only professional and knowledgeable, but also compassionate and attentive. They make both pets and owners feel supported and understood, and I am so grateful for the excellent care they provide. Thank you so much for all your hard work and continue doing what you do.
Read on Google →I have been to see both Mel and Jo with my nervous rescue dog, and due to moving house I have previously been to a few different vet practices before coming to Brook vets. Brooks is by far the best vet experience we have received. The staff have been so kind, patient and caring with Rosie. They take their time to ensure Rosie is comfortable and we never feel rushed. Rosie is normally so nervous with new people yet she has been the most relaxed here than at any vet practice we have visited before. The staff genuinely care about each animal that comes into their practice and take the time to read up and consider their individual needs. The reception staff are also brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and again couldn’t have been better with Rosie and knew exactly how to approach and be around a nervous dog, whilst still being friendly, greeting everyone with a smile and offering reassurance to the owners waiting for their pets in the waiting room. I can’t recommend Brook vets enough particularly for those with a nervous pet!

Read on Google →I am writing to express my deep disappointment with Brook Veterinary Surgery. We trusted them to care for our six cats, all of whom were microchipped. However, it became evident that they failed to properly update their system with our cats’ information. Tragically, Nala, one of our beloved cats, was attacked and severely mauled by several dogs not on their leads just outside the front of our house. The owner of these dogs brought Nala to Brook Veterinary Surgery, this happened to be our veterinary surgery where all our cats are registered. Despite Nala being microchipped, Brook Veterinary Surgery could not find her information in their system due to their failure to update it when we came in on several recent occasions, strangely 4 out of 6 of our cats had their microchip details in they system but not Nala – given the law of having cats microchipped by 10 June 2024 one would have expected Brook Veterinary Surgery to be on it and updating their customer records with microchip details. Brook Veterinary Surgery attempted to find the owner of Nala by searching databases and contact local vets, they were unsuccessful due an issue with the national database – however, they had Nala’s customer record but couldn’t match the microchip number. Brook Veterinary Surgery did what was required by law under RCVS’ duty of care which is provide basic pain relief, after they concluded they could not find the owner they decided to euthanise Nala. The following day we started calling the local vet’s and found Nala at Brook Veterinary Surgery, upon meeting with their staff in transpired Nala might have been saved if we could have provided consent and financial backing for blood transfusions and specialist care. Between the irresponsible dog owner not contacting us and Brook Veterinary Surgery, our choice was taken away from us to attempt to save Nala. Instead she died slowly alone. In addition, upon further investigation with the practice manager it transpired there are multiple holes in Brook Veterinary Surgery software and defects with their software resulting in timestamps all over the place for clinical records, showing Nala’s euthanasia whilst she was still alive, even then we struggled to get a clear picture of what happened when.
Read on Google →I would like to thank all the staff at the Brook Veterinary Surgery for all the care and kindness provided to me and my family during the difficult time saying goodbye to our beloved dog Toby. You all made a heartbreaking time a bit easier and I'll always be grateful. We'll be back as soon as we are strong enough to get a new fur baby 💔🐕🦺🙏
