Having recently moved to Dorset I was looking for a new vet for my three cocker spaniels. Having researched all the vets in the area I decided on Dorset Coast Vets mainly because of the Pet Health Club, what it covered and the potential annual savings. Having three dogs doesn’t come cheap. Having previously worked in a veterinary practice myself, I am probably harder to please than most and will scrutinise everything, from the interaction with receptionists, cleanliness of the reception area & waiting room to the vets ‘bedside manner’ and how they interact with my dogs. I have to say if I could give Dorset Coast Vets 6 stars I would. The reception staff are super friendly & welcoming yet professional. The reception & waiting area are scrupulously clean, and Oscar the vet we saw, was extremely thorough in his examination of all three of my dogs. I didn’t feel rushed in the slightest, and to be honest I don’t think I’ve ever had a vet carry out such a thorough health check on my dogs for a routine booster. So in conclusion, if you’re reading my review and are thinking of changing vets, or like me have recently moved to the area and are wondering which vets to choose, look no further, I can 100% recommend Dorset Coast Vets. Absolutely superb!

Recently we had to make hard decision to say goodbye to our lovely dog. I wasn’t sure how things work, so I went to the practice and I say, that we believe it’s time, the receptionist offered consultation with a vet first, as we didn’t visit vet for long time, I only explained that he’s 15 years old and some of the problems our dog experienced and appointment was made. I wasn’t given any more details only card with appointment date and time, I wasn’t given any told that if we will require an earlier appointment, to call and this will be arranged and that was all. I left not knowing what to expect and what will happen, so I just thought that on the day we will be informed. When we came on the day, we came a bit earlier, it was very difficult day for all of us, our dog as recently often couldn’t settle, I went in to say that we are here for putting our dog to sleep, receptionist told me that there is a private room waiting for us where we can nome in, so we did, the vet was running late, which I also was informed about but we didn’t mind as we was in a private room. As we was in the room we noticed some leaflets and verity of boxes on a little shelf, there was a blanket waiting which unfortunately our dog don’t want to use as he was unsettled. When the vet came in and assessed our dog, she agreed with us that the time came, we was explained that our dog will need a cannula for administration of the medication, and the vet asked if we want to keep the ashes, when we said yes, vet mentioned that we could have it in the box, we could also have a simple box and then shop around ourselves which I believe we said yes to, I was passed form to sign but truth to be told I did not even though to read it what I’m signing. Our dog was taken out for the cannula to be inserted and when returned everything went quite quickly, we had a chance to stay for a bit after, so until this point I was impressed with how the things went, as we was leaving I asked for a payment and I also been told that it doesn’t have to be right now, but I do like to pay at the end of the service, so I wanted to pay then and that’s when I was shocked when I heard that it’s £574, after the payment went through, receptionist looked at me and say just to confirm you ordered keepsake box and truth to be told I had no idea that this is what we was chard for, the receptionist wanted to check with the vet but as I felt very upset and kind of shock with the price, and the payment already went through and all I thought of was going home, I just left it like that. I had to say I’m a bit disappointed that especially with even such a nice private room and grate display of different options for the box we was not showed or asked to choose. Probably on that day this would be the best time, I work in a care industry for over 15 years and now I understand why it’s so important to put things in place before things happen and that is because when your at this situation yourself your not thinking straight and without the guidance of in this case professional, it just feels like this is a business deal for some people. I know I próbo left it a bit to late, but it’s not an easy decision to make and I was hoping to be explained especially the choices of box a bit which unfortunately didn’t happen.

I've brought my dog Ares here twice now and both times we've been seen by Alice. Ares is quite an anxious boy and Alice handles and cares for him amazingly. She is helpful and informative and i'm very grateful that Ares has such a great vet!

We lost our dog due to unprofessional treatment at this practice. I can say a few words based on my personal experience being registered for over 5 years with this vet practice. Because I work in healthcare it is essential for quality of care to follow treatment protocols and continuity of care. Not in this practice , we saw over series of appointments 3 different vet doctors and it was clear that they had not been reviewing properly the medical history , failing to diagnose correctly our dog on the early stage and making wrong decisions in further treatment resulting ultimately in our dog’s death. Stay away if possible unless you need somebody for clipping dog’s nails

Dave Cumber vets have the most modern vet facilities in the area. On visiting, our dogs presenting issues are always fully discussed and all options to address these highlighted alongside the cost of any treatments. The health of my dog(s) is paramount to me, this vet also has the option of a pet plan designed to help spead costs over the year. My dogs are clearly always happy to visit and are always welcomed as if they are members of a large family.
