Extortionate Prices, Zero Transparency, and Appalling Communication I am beyond disgusted with the service—or lack thereof—at the Haughley practice. After the devastating loss of my dog, Obi, only the day before, I brought my other dog, Bailey, in for a consultation. What followed was a masterclass in how to exploit pet owners during their most vulnerable moments. The lack of transparency here is staggering. I walked away with nothing but a card receipt—no itemized invoice, no breakdown of costs, and no record of what was actually done. It wasn't until I called back that I discovered the "vulture pricing" structure they employ: The "Consultation": Charged at £66 for 20 minutes. That is an hourly rate of £198. For context, that is more expensive than the labor rate at an Audi dealership working on luxury vehicles. The Medication Markup: I was charged £66 for ear drops that are available online for £26.95. A 250% markup is not "business," it is exploitation. The Phantom Prescription: Despite being charged £30 for a prescription, I was never given the document. I left the surgery with no meds and no way to order them elsewhere, despite being told I would receive both. The vet industry is currently under CMA investigation for exactly these types of practices—overcharging and lack of transparency—and this practice is a textbook example of why that investigation is necessary. To top it all off, I sent a detailed formal complaint to the Practice Manager and have been met with total silence. It seems they are quick to take your money but couldn't care less about patient care or customer service once the card machine has beeped. I have had great service at their Thurston branch, but the Haughley management is clearly comfortable taking advantage of the emotional bond between owners and their pets. If you value your pet’s health and your own bank balance, stay away.

It's a crying shame that what was once a fantastic privately own veterinary practice has been sold to a CHAIN! The vets are still attentive, but need to up sell to get to their previous pay!

No compassion or care when my mother came from an appointment today. When the vet asked about one of our dogs coming in for an appointment she told them he had sadly passed away - the reply was ‘oh right we will cross him off the list then’ SHOCKING. Plus charged us £180 for flea treatment and shampoo. From a vet you would expect staff to understand the grief that families experience when losing a pet and show some compassion. A genuinely heartbreaking thing to hear a family member have to experience.

My older cat (11yrs) and young dog (17 months) have been patients at Haughley Vets for about 6 months now after I changed vets when my pup had been treated roughly and in an uncaring way by one of the vets at my previous practice which was a very upsetting experience. I wanted a vet that was gentle, kind and caring and Haughley & Thurston Vets had been recommended and I registered at their Haughley branch. I couldn’t be more happy with the treatment both my pets have received here. The vets have been fantastic - caring, gentle and have spent time explaining their tests, diagnosis and treatment plans when my cat was recently unwell. They were kind and reassuring with my dog (a Romanian Rescue) and she is also always treated gently and in such a reassuring and caring way. She is very popular with both the staff and vets and we always feel very welcome no matter how busy they are. Haughley Vet’s prices are good and comparable and I have found them great at discussing different levels of testing and treatment as a choice rather than just making a decision themselves. I couldn’t be happier with the staff, nurses and vets and would highly recommend them to others looking for a wonderful service and a warm and friendly welcome.
