  We’ve been taking our Pocket Bully, Milo, to Vets for Pets Longwell Green for just over two years now. Over that time there have been a few small red flags, but nothing major enough to make us question continuing with the practice — until this week. I brought Milo in yesterday with what I suspected was an ear infection. The vet we saw appeared quite nervous and lacked confidence handling him, which unfortunately made Milo more unsettled. He’s the kind of dog that picks up on energy very quickly, and once he senses uncertainty he becomes much harder to manage. I explained that I thought the equipment being used may have reminded him of the ear flushing treatment we use at home. I was then told nothing could be done until they looked in his ear and was advised to give calming medication before returning, with no food before the appointment. I agreed to this, but was also told that if it didn’t work he would need to be sedated just to examine his ear, with an estimated cost of over £700. This was surprising as he had sedation for a procedure in October which cost just over £100. I also asked about having a swab taken to get to the root cause of the issue, and while I was initially quoted around £200, the estimate somehow increased to over £1000 overall, which left me feeling quite concerned and confused. Today, however, we had a completely different experience. I requested not to see the same vet again and instead saw Beth, who was absolutely fantastic. The reception staff were also lovely and welcoming. Beth took the time to build trust with Milo and handled him with confidence and patience from the moment we walked in. Within 20 minutes she had made both Milo and us feel completely at ease. She carried out a swab there and then, explained that the infection was likely allergy-related based on his coat and paws, and talked us through all of our options clearly and professionally — none of which involved immediate sedation. Her knowledge, confidence and approach completely changed the experience for us. We left feeling reassured, listened to, and far more confident in the care Milo is receiving. Beth is genuinely excellent and deserves recognition for the level of care and professionalism she showed today.

  What can I say all the staff members here are absolutely amazing ,and has been with us all the way thro with my two poorly cats, Communication has been brilliant ,we was always on the phone for advice and help.I would so like to thank Beth as she has been fantastic with everything my babies needed, It has been a tough few months and still a struggle now .So Beth thankyou for being with us all thro our rough time .She is such a credit to the company , Just to let you no Cosmo is doing well, So once again we would like to thank you all xxx

  Amazing first visit! Very kind staff who appeared to really care for our pet. Empty waiting room, no wait time, a calming environment and great all round visit. My pet seemed happy here. The prices were reasonable in comparison to my last vets.

  Have recently departed from this Vets 4 Pets. Earlier this year had a lump removed from my dogs eye lid. All went well which cost me £1,100. (This is what warrants my 2nd star, 1 star being for the friendly desk staff). A few months later I noticed a lump on my dogs side. After a chat with the vet decided to monitor it. All fine (lumps are nothing serious thus far as his breed is common for fatty tissues / systs). After deciding that I wasn’t happy with the lump I called to arrange a lump removal. Much to my horror the vet decided to inform me a week before the surgery that it would cost over £2,500. Amazing isn’t it how the price can increase almost 150%. For the exact same procedure he already had, a lump Removal. Infact a much more sensitive procedure near the eye you’d think would be more expensive. She tried to justify the cost with “well we have to look after him after”. Pathetic. I was even told “we don’t need to justify the price”. I beg to differ, they won’t justify it because it cannot be. Once they know you have insurance they take you to the cleaners like most insurance based cases do, not helpful when your dogs older & you have to pay percentages of the fees. Have since moved him to another local vet that isn’t a chain company and they were absolutely fantastic and proving this practise for exactly what they are, fraud. They might care for animals but they are certainly geared up to get out of the owners what they can. Have since had the lump sorted, the surgery and after care for a third of the cost. Take your pets elsewhere.

  Always manage to get us in when we need an emergency appointment on the day, which is extremely handy give our pets are one of the most important things! Staff are very welcoming, so much so, that our dog loves going to the vets. Vets and nurses are always friendly and calming, which makes the experience for our dog as easy as can be. Thank you
