  They have given our dog good treatment for the years he has been with them however the end of life care is shocking. We came for the appointment to have our dog put down which had been booked for a week. We had to wait in the waiting area. With others in a distressing situation. There is pictures on the wall of a lovely homely room to say goodbye in but not at Thornton. You are in a clinical room where you can see out into the waiting room can hear everybody out there and the staff in the back. No dignity at all . Pets are family and so cold spending the last moments with your loved one like that.

  I used Moy vets in an emergancy situation just before Christmas. My dog had had a routine leg op before Christmas and by the night he was struggling to breathe. Ordinarily I would take my dogs to Lytham in an emergency situation, however I genuinely did not think my dog would make it. I rang Moy who arranged for a vet to meet me at the practice. The vet met me and looked at my dog, I explained he had suffered GDV last year and TTA surgery as well. The vet gave me two options, xray him and pass a tube down to release the air, or maybe it would be kinder to put him to sleep. My dog is a 9 year old Newfie cross. I was taken aback by the option to PtS without even trying what seemed to be a relatively straight forward procedure. I opted for the xray and tube. This appeared to be successful and we agreed to keep him there over night. In the morning, after being fed he had another instance of bloat, a further passing tube and unfortunately another instance of bloat and the seemingly took a turn for the worst. I was offered exploratory surgery or put my dog to sleep. I asked what the vet reccommended in this situation. I was told he was very ill, he was older and had been through a lot and she would call it a day. I stated I needed to ring my husband but I had the feeling I needed to ring my own vet. Luckily my vet dropped everything to go an collect Ron, I rang Moy and explained my vet was coming to collect my dog, this was met with surprise and a statement that the vet hoped “I would get the answers I was looking for” my vet was told how ill Ron was and that he was not able to get up. Upon seeing my vet, my dog got up and greeted him. My vets took my dog back to their practice and subsequently had to take my dog in to surgery. He needed his spleen removing and a further gastropexy. We are now 5 weeks post op and my dog is back to walking on the beach in the morning, is playful, engaged and happy. Moy vets were ringing me hours after collecting my dog to ask how I was going to settle the bill. The bill was £1900. I was left so traumatised by their treatment and I am so thankful I listened to my gut and rang my own vet. The thought that I could have made an irreversible decision based on their advice makes me feel sick. Unfortunately this practice appears to value profits over their patients and owners and I will never attend this practice again,

  I needed emergency advice about whether it was time to say goodbye to my 14-year old chocolate Labrador. To begin with, I could not get through to the emergency vet on my first attempt and had to try again later. When I got through, the girl I first spoke to appeared sympathetic; my dog had developed diarrhoea and as she cannot move without help and as she finds it stressful getting in and out of cars, I needed a vet to come out to assess her. After consulting with the vets / her supervisor, the girl rang back to say that unfortunately, they could not help as there were lots of emergencies and they were short-staffed, also that an out-of-hours call could be arranged after 7pm but this would be very expensive. At this stage, I became uncharacteristically upset and stressed at the prospect of getting no help in what was a terrible situation at home, resulting in the girl passing me on to her supervisor/ a vet, I’m not sure which. That person reiterated that they were too busy to help, referred to money and the fact that they hadn’t even had a lunch break yet. Irrelevant facts and just what I needed to hear in my anxious state. I then tried another vets who could not help either, so I had no choice but to call Moys back with a view to arranging an out-of-hours call-out. I spoke to Leanne who though couldn’t help, was very sympathetic/ empathetic and even tried calling other local vets on my behalf, unfortunately without success. She did, however, provide a useful contact number for future reference. She was the only positive thing throughout the whole of today’s sorry affair. She was very professional but even so, did not repair the damage already done. I am left shocked and extremely disappointed after today’s experience with Moys - Leanne aside - and am left with the overall impression of a money-making, unfeeling business, who have left me in a heartbreaking situation at home, as I really don’t know what to do now. I will not be using this business again.

  Can't speak highly enough about moy vets have used them for over 30 years and today for the very fist time I had to call them out to put my beloveded dog holly to sleep. They were professional and very friendly. They let me stay while they put her to sleep and dignified when they took her away. Emily the veterinary nurse was lovely the vet was to but didn't her his name or I didn't hear. When they had gone Emily rang me over something and said that she had taken some paw prints for me and would drop them on on her way home. What a lovely thing to do Can't thank them both Carol
