Animal Care Tiree

Animal Care Tiree is a unique, non-profit community veterinary practice located on the Isle of Tiree. Owned and operated by islanders, it provides essential veterinary services to the local community, treating a range of animals including pets and livestock, with a particular focus on providing intensive support during calving and lambing seasons. They combine regular on-island vet visits with telemedicine services to ensure continuous care.

What makes Animal Care Tiree special is its community-led, non-profit model, making it the first of its kind in the UK. The practice is governed by a board of directors, including representatives from Tiree Community Development Trust and Tiree Rural Development, ensuring that all profits are reinvested back into the practice to benefit the community. They have secured a team of senior and locum vets to provide consistent care and aim to never be without veterinary support for more than a week.

Practical information includes an emergency contact number for out-of-hours services, with potential additional charges. The practice is scheduled to officially open in early 2026, building on an existing practice to ensure service continuity. The goal is to provide approximately 32 weeks of physical vet presence annually, supplemented by phone or video consultations, with continuous cover during lambing and calving season from mid-February to mid-May.

  Recently had cause to take our short-haired Border Collie, Dougie, to Coll & Tiree Vets to have two staples inserted into a wound he sustained while playing. According to my wife, Anne, was very nice and very professional during the whole procedure and Dougie was very relaxed with her. We can thoroughly recommend the services of Coll & Tiree Vets (the only ones on the island) if you have occasion to need them! ★★★★★

  Phoned and 1 hour met Neil who was the locum helping out covering holidays. A gentleman and an Islander. Sorted out our dogs ear priblem. Definately recommend
