  Dreadful service. Late on Saturday afternoon, I called this veterinary practice seeking a second opinion for my extremely unwell dog. I was told they would not see him unless he was registered with the practice and that payment would need to be made upfront. I explained that I was more than happy to register both of my dogs immediately and pay in full for the consultation and any treatment required. I was then told that one of their vets would call me to discuss the situation further. Around 10 minutes later, I received a call informing me that the vet had decided not to speak to me or see my seriously ill dog. In the early hours of Sunday morning, despite doing everything we possibly could, we lost our beautiful boy. You describe yourselves as animal lovers, yet you refused to see a dog who was desperately unwell and in need of help. Every concern or condition you raised, I agreed to, including registering my dogs and paying upfront, but you still refused to see him. I am deeply disappointed by the lack of compassion and support we received at such a heartbreaking time. How are vets allowed to refuse to help an animal when payment isn’t an issue. RESPONSE BACK TO ABBEY GREEN VETS I appreciate you taking the time to explain your policy. However, I cannot hide my disappointment and frustration with the situation. At the time I contacted your practice, I wasn’t looking for administrative explanations or a discussion about policies. I was desperately trying to get urgent help for a dog who was clearly suffering. Being told that no assistance could be offered because he was registered elsewhere felt incredibly cold and lacking in compassion. While I understand you have an out-of-hours policy, veterinary professionals also have a duty of care to animal welfare. From my perspective, there appeared to be no willingness to even assess the situation or offer any practical advice beyond directing me elsewhere. That is extremely difficult to accept, particularly knowing the outcome. Your explanation that the decision was “not related to money” misses the point entirely. My concern has never been about finances—it is about compassion, professional judgement, and whether more could have been done in an emergency. This experience has left me questioning whether policies are being allowed to override the welfare of animals in urgent need. Whilst I understand there are operational considerations, I believe exceptional circumstances require professional discretion. I will, of course, also be raising my concerns with my own veterinary practice regarding the care my dog received. However, that does not diminish my disappointment in the response I received from your practice when I reached out in desperation. Losing my dog has been heartbreaking, and knowing that I was turned away when seeking help has only added to that distress.

  What a superb, professional, sympathetic team. We had to take our beloved Mini-Schnauzer here four times over Christmas as she was suddenly declining at nearly 17 years old. My constant companion & best friend since she was seven weeks old. The worst decision had to be made and the team were so thoughtful, helpful & understanding that we were utterly heartbroken. Ebony was treated with tenderness, compassion & dignity.
