Vaccination is the first real veterinary bill a new kitten owner faces, usually within a fortnight of bringing the kitten home. The good news is that it is entirely predictable: two injections, a few weeks apart, at a price most practices publish openly.

We index published prices from **2,448 UK practices that list a cat vaccination price**. The median annual booster is **£72.50**, and where practices publish the kitten primary course as a package it typically lands at **£75-£110** for both injections and the health checks that go with them.

Kitten vaccination costs, September 2026

- • **Full kitten primary course** (two injections plus health checks): typically **£75-£110**
- • **First injection alone** if paid per visit: usually £45-£65
- • **Annual booster thereafter:** median £72.50, middle half £65-£82 (n=2,448)
- • **Feline leukaemia (FeLV)** where charged separately: £25-£40
- • **Rabies** (travel only): £60-£95

## What is in a kitten's primary vaccination course?

The UK core kitten course is two injections, normally at **nine weeks and twelve weeks** old, though some vaccine brands allow the second dose from eight weeks. Each visit includes a full health check: weight, heart, chest, teeth, eyes, ears and a check for fleas and worms. That consultation is part of what you are paying for, and it is the reason a kitten course costs more than two doses of vaccine.

The core vaccine protects against three diseases:

- **Feline panleukopenia** (feline infectious enteritis) — frequently fatal in unvaccinated kittens.
- **Feline herpesvirus** and **feline calicivirus** — the two causes of "cat flu", which can leave permanent eye and airway problems.

**Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV)** is recommended for any kitten that will go outdoors, and most UK practices include it in the standard course rather than charging for it separately. Where it is itemised, expect £25-£40. Rabies is only relevant if you plan to travel with your cat.

## How much does a kitten's first vaccination cost?

Paid as a package, £75-£110 covers the whole course at the large majority of UK practices. Paid per visit, the first injection is usually £45-£65 and the second a similar amount, which is why splitting the course almost always costs more. If a practice quotes you a "first vaccination" price on the phone, ask directly whether that is the full course or one injection — it is the single most common source of confusion in this bill.

A rough budget for a kitten's first year, using our index medians: vaccination course £75-£110, [neutering](/blog/cat-neutering-cost-uk-2026) £104 (male) or £149 (female), microchipping £15-£30, and a first-year parasite programme of roughly £80-£150. Our [cat vet costs guide](/blog/cat-vet-costs-uk-guide) works through the rest.

## Kitten and cat vaccination prices by vet group

Booster price is the cleanest way to compare groups, because almost every practice publishes one and the product is essentially identical. Median published cat vaccination price by ownership group:

The £20 gap between the cheapest and dearest cohort is for the same core vaccine. Over a fifteen-year life that is roughly £300 — worth knowing before you register, because moving practice later is easy but rarely gets done.

## Where you live changes the price too

County medians for cat vaccination, from counties with at least 25 published prices:

East Yorkshire

Southern counties run roughly £15-£20 above the cheapest parts of the Midlands and the north. Within any one town, though, the spread between individual practices is usually wider than the gap between counties — which is the useful point: compare locally, not nationally. Enter your [postcode](/) to see the published prices near you.

## When can a kitten go outside?

About a week after the second injection, so typically at around 13-14 weeks old, once immunity has developed. Cats Protection and most UK practices also advise waiting until after neutering before allowing free outdoor access, which usually means around four to five months.

## How to pay less for kitten vaccinations

- **Book the course as a package.** Nearly every practice prices the pair below two separate visits.
- **Ask what is bundled.** Many practices include a free flea and worm treatment, a microchip, or a discount on neutering with a kitten course. Those extras are worth £30-£60 and are rarely advertised.
- **Compare before you register.** The gap between two practices a few miles apart is routinely £20-£30 per visit.
- **Consider a health plan only after the sums.** At an independent charging £64 a booster, a £15 a month plan rarely pays for itself; at a CVS practice charging £84 it often does. Our [pet care plans guide](/blog/pet-care-plans-worth-it) has the arithmetic.
- **Check charity support.** The PDSA and some local rescues help with vaccination costs for owners receiving qualifying benefits.
- **Never let the booster lapse.** Beyond roughly 15 months most practices restart the full primary course, which costs more than the booster you skipped.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much do kitten vaccinations cost in the UK?

Typically £75-£110 for the full two-injection primary course including health checks. Paid per visit it is usually £45-£65 per injection, so the package is nearly always cheaper.

### How many vaccinations does a kitten need?

Two, normally at nine and twelve weeks, followed by a booster twelve months later and then annual or triennial boosters depending on the vaccine component.

### Are kitten vaccinations included in a pet health plan?

Most practice plans include the annual booster and health check but not always the primary course. Ask specifically whether the two kitten injections are covered before signing up.

### Do indoor kittens need vaccinating?

Yes. Cat flu and panleukopenia viruses can be carried indoors on clothing and shoes, and catteries require an up-to-date record. FeLV is less critical for a strictly indoor cat and worth discussing with your vet.

### Which vets are cheapest for cat and kitten vaccinations?

On our index, independent practices at a £64 median, followed by Pets at Home / Vets4Pets at £69. CVS Group is the dearest at £84.

### What happens if I miss the second kitten injection?

If the gap stretches much beyond a few weeks, most practices restart the course. Ring your practice rather than assuming — a short delay is often fine.

**Methodology:** booster figures are medians of published prices from 2,448 UK practices indexed on [vetpricecomparisonsite.co.uk](/). Primary course, FeLV and rabies figures are drawn from the subset of practice price lists that publish those items separately. Implausible outliers are excluded. County figures use counties with at least 25 published prices. Snapshot 1 September 2026.
